At the end of July, we concluded our latest Dame Kelly Holmes Trust Get on Track programme with an afternoon of Bowling!
This programme saw 20 Young People from Swale mentored by Claire Bennett & Tre Whyte for 14 weeks. They engaged in a range of activities aimed at developing personal and professional skills, boosting their confidence, and improving their job prospects.
The group also took part in a range of physical activities including Fencing, Spin and a Wellbeing Walk (as their Social Action Project). Tyrone, who is aspiring for a career in this field, also put the group through their paces with a personal training session. Engaging in gym activities boosted confidence for both Tyrone and the group.
Alongside physical activities sessions include wellbeing activites and opportunities for personal development.
The group have taken part in “snowball fights”, where everyone writes down a healthy change they plan to implement by the following week, along with something they admire about the group. These are then scrunched up and thrown them around the room. Sharing and reading them aloud creates a motivational and positive atmosphere for the upcoming week.
Participants engaged in activities like speed-dating to craft their 30-second ‘elevator pitches’, enhancing their ability to confidently discuss their strengths in hopes of securing educational or employment opportunities.

As always, SCL has enjoyed seeing the progress of the whole group throughout the programme. To date, 8 of these Young People have secured employment and several others will be undertaking work experience in our leisure centres in the coming weeks.
